Practicum/Internships

At Aspen Ridge Counseling we offer paid internship opportunities, in addition to:

Training on clinical documentation practices that exceeds industry standards

We have a very user friendly EMR that we use for all of our documentation.  This has helped our therapists familiarize themselves with the documentation process and requirements without being overwhelmed by it.

Therapists are trained on how to complete comprehensive mental health assessments that meet professional standards.  This training includes regular follow-up consultation and on-going training so the therapists can fine-tune these skills.

We also teach therapists how to write treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and complete all other necessary clinical documentation so that they are well-trained and have a solid foundation for whatever future endeavor they choose within the mental health field.

Supervision, staffing, and trainings for our interns and associate licensed clinicians

One of the goals we have for our therapists is that they have the opportunity to staff cases both in their individual supervision with their supervisor as well as a weekly staffing group with their peers.  We have found they learn more and gain greater confidence in their own abilities when they have the opportunity to give and receive feedback with their peers in these weekly staffing meetings.

We also provide a weekly clinician workshop that allows all of our clinicians to share resources on a pre-determined topic.  In this workshop they not only share resources but they also share about how they implemented these resources with real clients.
Another aspect of our training model that has received a great deal of positive feedback are the monthly continuing education presentations that we host for all of our staff.  Sometimes we bring in outside experts to present, other times we have our in-house staff present.

Exposure to a wide spectrum of clients

We have six clinics in northern Utah.  Four in Salt Lake County, 1 in Tooele County and 1 in Davis County.  We offer services to a wide range of individuals with varying backgrounds and cultures.  We have found that exposing therapists to individuals and families of varying social circumstances has helped them broaden their perspectives and gain a greater understanding of the different challenges that are out there, and more importantly, how to help those of varying backgrounds who may seek their services now and in the future.

Another very positive aspect of the populations we serve in relation to training  therapists is the exposure they receive to the clientele we serve with regard to age.  We see young children, adolescents, adults and families. This allows our therapists to learn more about populations they may have previously thought they weren’t interested in working with and then they find that after working with them they have a real knack for it and really enjoy it.
